Kerry Grimes - Counselor - Student Last Names M-Z

Room: Counseling Center

Phone: 480-883-5412

Welcome!

Welcome to ACP Middle School! My name is Kerry Grimes, and this is my 29th year in education. I have been in CUSD for the last 23 years. Prior to becoming a counselor, I spent many years in the classroom. I taught 5th - 8th grade - specializing in ELA. I loved being in the classroom, but I also desired the opportunity to work in a smaller setting with all students in the areas of academic support as well as in the social/emotional realm. I am proud to say that education is a "family affair". My husband is also a long-time employee of CUSD, and both of my sons work at a school in Mesa!

My Education and Professional Background

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology -University of Arizona (GO CATS!)

Post-Baccalaureate in Elementary Education - Arizona State University

Masters in Education -  Counseling - Northern Arizona University

My Educational Philosophy

I believe effective school counseling starts with a counseling program that supports the development of students’ academic skills as well as personal/social skills. Through educator, parent, and community partnerships, the school counseling program should facilitate the development of a support system that enhances student achievement and learning that promotes the growth of productive citizens in the future. I believe the counseling experience is a very personal, shared interaction between two people; with the most crucial aspect of this relationship being trust.
